  • why does rendered comp look too wide?

After applying some effects in AE 6.5 to an avi clip and rendering it, the resulting avi appears stretched in width when viewed on WM player or Real Player. Once I import it into PPro 1.5 it appears to be the normal dimensions, but when just viewing the rendered avi in a player it’s width is out of proportion.

Can anyone tell me why this is, and, if need be, how to correct for it? Thanks-

Mediaplayer and Realplayer don’t always compensate video pixel aspect ratios properly. This is CoDec and media dependant, but if it looks okay in Premiere I wouldn’t worry.

Great–thanks a lot guys–I can stop worrying. Oddly enough, clips freshly captured clips in PPro look normal when viewed on the WM player, and stretched when viewed on the Real Player. Go figure…

At any rate, if the reason it looks stretched is because a Pixel Aspect ratio of .9 is used for NTSC-television viewing (where it’ll look normal) and the image is being viewed on a computer monitor, once the clip is incorporated into a finished DVD production viewed on a computer, why wouldn’t that AE’d clip look stretched? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

    Thanks-
    Ruby
