  • Why does my Sony Vegas lag when I import a specific video?

Posted by Ben Win on April 4, 2014 at 4:11 am

I’m not having lag issues on one project, but there’s another project I have that’s just lagging to the point that it’s giving me errors and crashing. I only imported a 2 minute video to edit, whereas the project without lag has like 15 videos imported. The 2 minute video seems to lag up my other project when I import it into the project, too. I also run into lag issues when I import .mov files from my camera. Like, serious lag issues (crashes). I don’t have anything else running, so I haven’t a clue as to what’s causing the lag.

That’s what just a few video formats do, when they don’t sit well
with Vegas. What camera is that?

My camera is a Nikon D300. That’s all I see.

It imports as .mov files. I also downloaded the video I need (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ0y7ayTYEE) as an .mp4 and it still lags. I have another video downloaded for another project and while it is .mp4, it doesn’t lag. What’s the cause of this?

How can I lower the quality so that I can view the video without lag (without having to do RAM preview every 10 seconds)?

Well, you should not have any issues with that.
Odd.. Do you have the latest Quicktime Player version installed?

You can lower the preview quality playback to Preview-Quarter.
    Just above the Preview Window.

I’m using an older version of Quicktime because when I use the latest, my .mov files are black when I import them into Vegas.
