  • Why does my hard drive fill up while Compressor runs?

Posted by Adam Bowers on September 24, 2015 at 5:10 pm

I’m trying to export video with Compressor and I set the destination for the file to be an external hard drive with a lot of space available, but coming back after it has been running all night I find out that my laptop’s memory has been completely eaten up in the process. I can’t find any mention of anything like a memory cache for Compressor, can someone point me to where I could go in and clean that up, and also, how I could change the settings so it doesn’t fill up my internal hard drive? Thanks

Are you doing a multipass encode? My hunch is it may be a cache issue.
You don’t mention the version but current version of Compressor is 4.2.1 and there’s been some major under the hood improvements from versions previous to 4.2

BTW you should read the pinned post at the top of this forum. If you don’t provide enough information it’s possible people may not want to respond with lots of assumptions.
