Why does my exported movie stutter in QT player?

I have to agree with Jeremy. I don’t see this stutter that you are talking about. I do see the progressive look that Jeremy mentioned. That does have a stuttering effect if that is what you are talking about.
I have to ask… Is this your first project that was done in 720p? Anytime you work in a progressive format, there will be some sort of stuttering that you are worried about. This is part of the progressive thing.
Just for the heck of it… Go to the movie theater and watch a movie and pay close attention to any sort of movement. You’ll see the same stuttering motion that is concerning you.
30p or 24p. Progressive frames are just a full complete frame of video. Interlaced video takes advantage of movement and draws fields in between the movement making it smoother. This is your difference.

Thanks for your support. The client has rejected it and I may have to rebuild it with out the pan. They are looking at it as a flash movie playing off of a cd so it is a bit more compressed than the version you looked at, but the compression is not the complaint. The problem is the jerkyness which is present in every form and data rate of the movie I have tried from sorenson to mpeg to flash.

What is the bitrate of the QT you have made? It’s possible to create H.264 QT’s (or other codecs) that have sufficiently high bitrates to not play well on lower spec computers. The sort of file you describe would require a dual 2.0Ghz processor as a minimum.
The random jerkiness you described sound like the issues my Mac mini has playing HD movies – which my MBP plays fine. I would urge you to seek client approval via video playback, not QT files – however more convenient that may be.

Unfortunatly this is not an approval copy. The client has watched the video play back as a DVD and everyone is happy with that. The problem is that they want to also distribute it as a CD-ROM so I have to create a Flash or MPEG movie that will play in that environment. Putting aside the added challenge of compression, cd drive speed and possibly under powered computers, I can’t get any quicktime of any bit rate to play this long pan of images without jerking here and there.

Sound to me that your client is asking too much…
People really don’t care about small jerky movements on Internet video as much as the video hanging up or stopping monetarily.
Somehow, I think you need to convince you client that a little jerky movement is Ok with this particular project. It will not destroy the moment or story line.
The product that you have shown us looks great but I am using a Mac Pro Quad 3.0. I just looked at it on my G4 Dual 1.0 and it is jerky at first but smoothes out as it plays. You are not going to get a perfect setting that will work for ALL computers.
You’ll have to talk with your client (of which, I hope they are paying good money for this) about what is more important, quality or playback smoothness. In order to play on older computers, you’ll have to loose quality to gain performance. These are questions you need to ask.
