why does FCP not like PAL?
Posted by Katie Cooper on May 15, 2007 at 6:45 pmSo…i am having a bit of a capturing nightmare. I have mini dv tapes shot with HDV mode and am trying to down-convert in FCP to dv. I have no problem doing this with an NTSC tape. However another tape shot in PAL mode will not capture. I can control the deck with FCP but have the message “preview disabled” in the log and capture window.

May 15, 2007 at 7:04 pmWhat deck and are you sure the deck is setup to downconvert to dv? If the deck is auto mode and the tape is HDV PAL, won’t it be spitting out PAL HDV and not PAL DV?

May 15, 2007 at 7:11 pmFCP works fine in PAL HDV, I cut three shows here all in 1080i/50 with zero issues.
[Jemgurl] “deck VR mode-auto”
Change that to DV.
Check your Downconvert to see if it is turned on.

May 15, 2007 at 7:11 pmDeck needs to be set to DV, make sure you have switched back to PAL as well. FCP has NO problems with PAL, your camera settings are wrong.

May 16, 2007 at 3:45 amFCP doesn’t really ‘not like’ PAL. You haven’t made your deck like PAL by leaving it on NTSC.
There are some PAL-specific issues in FCP, but this is not one of them.

Completely PAL.
