Why does export settings default to 50% quality?
If I check match sequence settings, I see video quality go to 50%. Why???
What do I do if I want the same quality I have in my timeline exported?

Which codec?
Some codecs, such as ProRes, do not use the quality setting. It’s completely non functional, as the bit rate is fixed.

So if it’s grayed out the quality setting is not at all functional, correct?

Yes, the bit rate is fixed for that codec as well.
It’s really only functional for Internet type codecs, such as h.264.
