Why do I still get dropped frames when I play the timeline?
Hi all,
This has confused me, which to be honest is not difficult!!
I’m running FCP 4.5 on a dual 2.5ghz G5 with 4gb of Apple memory. My OS is 10.3.9. Every so often a warning dialog box pops up telling me that frames were dropped during playback…..I make pop promos, so the projects I’m working on are quite small. I’ve started rendering everything on the timeline to try and stop the dropped frames, but it still happens every so often. Can anyone explain to me why this is happening?Many thanks in advance

Where is your media stored? What is the format of that drive? No you have Norton or Virex software on your computer?

Dropped frames are almost universally a result of your storage not being fast enough for your video to play back.
Other causes can include, multiple devices on the FW chain, mounted but unused optical disks or hard drives on your system, and other applications robbing system resources.Gary Adcock

Assuming you have proper drives and your hardware is in order, try doing a mixdown of your audio. This seems to fix a lot of dropped frame problems.

I did the audio mixdown, and it seemed to work, fingers crossed!!!!
I’m using a single Lacie external firewire drive, (most of my projects are music promo’s, so I can get away with a single drive).
I’m in the process of moving, so I’m going to look at my entire set-up when I’m settled in.
