  • Why do I have to render uncompressed 10 bit with a cc filter, where is the real time?

Posted by Ryanservant on June 30, 2006 at 2:16 pm

I thought at one point I had real time color correction with working with uncompressed 10 bit HD. Now I have to render both cross dissolves and the three way cc filter…..can someone tell me what setting I have messed up?

    thanks

uncompressed 10bit HD? No I don’t think anything is realtime yet there.

[ryanservant] “But it is with 8?”

It’s been a while since I’ve done 8bit uncompressed HD, but I’m pretty sure transitions were RT with my Kona 2 / Med

8 bit should have more rt depending on frame rate and frame size (you should be getting some with 720p24). Also, it will depend on how fast your raid is.

Here’s a little trick we use. 10 bit HD @ 1080, drop it into an 8 bit HD timeline, you get your basic CC and dissolves, and then you can switch it back to 10 bit and do a full quality render overnight.

If I drop 10bit hd into a 8 bit timeline don’t I have to render ti anyway because it doesn’t make the sequence settings?

Naw, it transcodes the 10 bit as 8 bit. Like rounding down on the fly.

    Charlie,
When i drop my stuff into a 10bit i get the nice pretty orange real time bar thing on my timeline. My play back is very stuutery and freezes like crazy….Do you think this is a ram issue or something? I think i only have 1.5 gb. I am just used to rendering overnight but I need to render about an hour and a half of cc filters and that is going to kick my butt.
