  • why do I have to render ordinary clips

I logged some clips this morning and , for some reason, everytime I put a clip into the timeline it has a red line above that, of course, needs to be rendered. Why is this? I haven’t done anything to it as far as adding any effects.

Why do these clips need to be rendered…that is the question.

    hmmmm………..

You have to set your Sequence settings to match the footage EXACTLY, if the sequence differs then you’ll have to render each clip again.

Try changing the Sequence settings by looking at the footage settings in your Browser.

I’d like to know more about this though. Once you HAVE rendered it, if you need to, and you start cutting, surely the clip will become unrendered if you chop it up. If this is the case, how are you supposed to edit at speed?

There seem to be an endless number of settings that you can Aquire at yet only a few are necessary – am I missing something or is it possible to mix and match some different footage types?

In addition to Alex’s post, he’s absolutely right about Sequence settings but that maybe affects if you captured NTSC and pull it into the PAL sequence

Have you tried switching the RT ? At the left corner of the timeline there’s a RT button, see if it’s Unlimited RT or Safe RT.

You could use unlimited RT for editing & playback purposes but in the end, what needs render…has to be rendered.

    Good luck

I didn’t know that about the RT setting, I’ll give it a try.

    Thanks

I found going to sequence settings and ‘Load Sequence Preset…’ and ‘ok’ worked for me.
