  • Why do I have sharp timeline playback output, but slightly softer “parked” timeline output?

I’ve been noticing that my 1080p23.98 ProRes HQ timelines are playing back at full quality, with sharp graphics (graphics that are are baked-in to ProRes HQ Quicktime files, that is), but as soon as I hit stop, the image goes slightly soft. This is more noticeable when there are graphics on the clip, but it doesnt matter if the graphic is a generated Premiere title, or if the graphic has been baked into the clip as a render out of After Effects.

The Viewer quality setting is set to “Full”, and there is no scaling or anything that requires rendering in the timeline…just simple AE-rendered ProRes clips.

It’s not a showstopping problem, but it’s noticeable enough to be totally annoying, esp. when tweaking graphics with a client looking over your shoulder.

I’m seeing the difference in sharpness in both the Premiere Program viewer window, as well as my external Plasma, being fed the 1080 signal through a Decklink 4K Extreme card.

    Any ideas?

[Tero Ahlfors] “What is your paused resolution?”

Ahh, that was it! I totally forgot about that option! Thanks for the tip.
