  • Why do I end up with a grainy DVD picture?

Could somebody help me? I am still learning PPro2.0. I have captured HDV quality images, edited to timeline, etc. All looks great on the computer screen. When I try to Export to DVD, the Source is shown as 720w X 480h (when it should be 1440w X 1080h, I believe). And when I make my settings and press OK, the enitre program aborts. When I export to Adobe Media Encoder, the Source is the proper 1440w X 1080h (the Output is 720×480, which I think is correct, right?). The program seems to run the process correctly. Then I use another software (ArcSoft Showbiz DVD2) to burn to DVD. Problem is: What then plays from the DVD on my good TV looks fuzzy, grainy, low pixel quality—not horrific but not sharp. Something important is getting lost somewhere. So,I wonder (1) why the Source on Export to DVD is lower than it should be, (2) why the Export to DVD command terminates itself (bug in the program?), and (3) Why when I can use Export to Media Encoder and burn to DVD it comes out looking a low quality picture. Can anyone give me any help? I’m stuck!

Check the settings on your (ArcSoft Showbiz DVD2) make sure it its preferences or settings are at Full DVD Quality. It sounds like the software is authoring a half res DVD. What does the mpeg2 file look like on its own without authoring? That’s what it should come out as when made to DVD.
