    Hi,
I have just received 5 HDV tapes shot on a Sony Z1 (pal)
the cameraman has used profile 4 setting on the camera, cineframe (CF24)

when I try to play back and import it to Prem, on my studio VTR (M25) I get a very jerky image as if it had a video strobe effect jerky video

I have also tried to import/play it back on the camera and again jerky,

anybody got any ideas as to how I can import it and edit in prem. as not to get the jerky picture…

as the cameraman says it’s not his problem!!!!

    regards
    Mark

I own a Z1p and can verify that u can’t shoot cf24 in pal mode cf25 is the only option available in pal mode. Cf24 is only available in the NTSC mode.

I don’t know the tech specs of your deck but u will need to switch to an NTSC playback and then capture in NTSC hdv as the cf24 is embedded in the 29.97 fps signal.

Either ur camera guy has no regard for the country he has shot in or doesn’t understand the limitaions of shooting in another format that’s not native to the country its being made for.

Try to capture with an NTSC hdv project.

Are u sure it’s cineframe24? U should be able to see it in the deck display settings somewhere.

Is is def. a PAL shoot, as i can load it in a Pal Project and my VTR when set to pal plays it back, just is very jerky,

on calling the camera Guy ( well Women ) she said she had set it to Profile 4 on the camera which is the “film like” profile

I assume this is CF24 as that is what the manual call it..

just as a test i have tried it in a NTSC project, still same problem,

Even when i play it back in the camera that recorded it i get the jerky movement, its like frame grab back in the old linear days

    Hi Mark,

RT.X2 user here who had used the prosumer version FX-1 with CF24 (4 years ago!) and with the NTSC camera, CF24 “simulates” a 24p recording in a 29.97 interlaced recording. It will look jerky due to the lower frame rate whenever there is motion or panning. Maybe this is not what you are seeing and it’s worse than that?

I can’t say how CF24 behaves in a PAL environment…this could be a problem. Sorry to hear about this, it is going to be a mess either way, as it’s obviously not the “look” you were after, I’m sure.

worse would be a under statement, even on static shots you can see that there is a problem, like a slite head movement is jerky, as if the whole video has a 1 frame strobe effect…

and it gets worse convinced that the camera person was not realy one, 80% of the shots are soft focus. (or maybe that’s a new stlye I don’t know about 🙂 )

I think its time to call the client, and just give the tapes back.

rather than suffer the pain of trying to sort it

Try rendering the whole timeline. We use a Canon HV20 As well as a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. The HV20 @25fps is perfect but, the 5D with mov files are difficult unless you render for smooth running on the timeline. Good luck !

Its, a timeline that does not need to render, i.e i press enter and it only renders the audio, the video is fine,

it plays the same way on the HDV studio Vtr, so if that can not play it back corectly, what chance have i of capturing it Prem, captures what it is given! as they say crap in crap out..

remember, Pal is 25 frames per second, also make sure you have your setting for progressive and interlaced proper.

“Oop, I think my render is done!”
