  • Why do 2 templates match my input

Posted by Paul Gregory on May 29, 2014 at 4:47 am

I put a clip on the timeline & click properties. It says AVCHD 1902x1080x12. I tell the program to render using input properties. When I click render & select Blu-ray. I seem to recall that you should look for the = sign. I see 2 options rather than the one I was expecting. They appear to just be offering me different bit-rates. If my project is to match what I started with why 2? What happens If I use the higher or lower one? It presumably will effect file size. Is there anything else that I should know about this?

    Thanks in advance

At a guess I’d say that TEMPLATES aren’t BITRATE specific. Rather they have a level above that, so that as long as they match a TOP Level rationale – I have several that are AVI – then THAT is what is picked.

Now, the alternative is that they ARE BITRATE specific? Can you imagine the pickle that would ensue? But we DO have the option to refine the searching:-

I believe it’s only looking for templates that match your resolution and frame rate. Nothing more.

I was wondering that if my input is the lower figure & I then rendered out using the higher that appears what would be the results. Would the program be trying to somehow upscale the original or would I just be giving the PC more work for no benefit & what if anything different would occur when the file is imported into DVDA.?

    Thanks in advance

[Paul Gregory] “I was wondering that if my input is the lower figure & I then rendered out using the higher that appears what would be the results.”

If you are referring to bit-rate, it would simply use more pixels and this a larger file size with no appreciable increase in quality.

    As John says.

Consequently with a very few exceptions, and this isn’t one of them, you only get OUT what you put IN.
