August 21, 2009 at 8:54 pmIain – I’d say it’s always better to master an older version before you move on the next one. If your happy with it and its doing what you want and your still learning new tricks – then stick with it. When it reaches the point when you want to do more – that’s the time to upgrade 🙂
Best,
Alex.

October 8, 2009 at 1:41 pmWell guys, that’s made quite a few points clear. however… “No G4 or G5”?
That’s a bit rubbish isn’t it? i’m running a G5 osx tiger. so if i want to upgrade i have to upgrade my comp too?I used to spend my time wondering, now it’s all used up rendering.

That’s a bit rubbish isn’t it?”No. Because the new software takes advantage of the NEW hardware. The old hardware won’t cut it…so it won’t work. This has been the case with LOADS of software. They require the new OS, or very specific hardware (NLE’s ESPECIALLY have strict hardware requirements) for them to work.
[Iain MacKinnon] “o if i want to upgrade i have to upgrade my comp too?”
If you want to go to FCP 7, yes. FCP 6 works fine, and is a prefectly good version. Still using it at work. Heck, people are still using FCP 4.5 and 5.0, and 5.1! It works, they have older machines..so why not?

October 9, 2009 at 9:49 amcheers mate, i’ll look in to getting FCP 6.
Now, one more really annoying question.
Will my plugins all work with an upgrade? be it FCP 5 or 6?I used to spend my time wondering, now it’s all used up rendering.

October 9, 2009 at 10:53 amI think the AE based plugins will work.
Things like BorisCC will depends on the version.
You need to check the manufacturers web sites.
Cheers,
rafael
