Are you shift clicking? looks like you’re shift clicking the second one, which would have the effect of selecting everything between the first selection, and the second selection. you want to cmd click the second one.

Welcome to the annoyance of selecting containers! You have to be very specific with containers. If you shift click it’s the equivalent of a lasso/marquee selection which will grab the clips and the container. FCPX wants one or the other. Either you want to move the clips in the container out of the container, or you want to move the container of clips. Can’t do both. So if you wanted to move a large selection of stuff including clips and containers, you’d have to cmd click all the containers, but then you could cmd lasso the clips in larger pieces. Not always so efficient that magnetic timeline.

I wish Apple would explain their thinking. OBVIOUSLY if you marquee select everything in a container, or shift click as you did, it should select the container, or allow you to move all contents as a container if all contents are selected and the container is selected. This just seems like basic DUH to me. It should at least be the default. Send them a feedback. Not that you should have to for something this simple but it’s been ignored for too long. I could swear something changed a few years ago and I just adapted and moved on.

Just curious, but why do you have the two clips in their own secondary storylines? They are positioned in such as way as to appear as though there is no gar between them, and thus no reason for them to be in their own containers.

There are tons of things I will Apple would change in FCP X. Like for example, I don’t like the autosave. Why? let’s say I do a lot of edits but then it gets hairy. In other programs, I can REVERT or close without saving and go back to my last “safe save”. Not possible in FCP afaik.

Another one: If I do an edit and then undo it, for some reason the timeline sometimes scrolls over to another place when I hit CMD-Z. You know what I’m talking about I think. Try it.

Maybe we should make a webpage called “Thinks I hate about FCP” or “FCP X Fixes wishlist”.

    I can go on…

In any case, I have submitted a request. Thanks again.

They have transitions, which means they get a secondary.

    PS, Nice sleuthing, Bret!

Get in the habit of duplicating your projects as Snapshots. This is a manual save, of sorts. I have mapped the save Project as snapshot to command-s, just like the old days.

You can also open backups of your FCPX Libraries, but that auto increments, so you may lose more than you need.

These are medical videos for education and each video (21 total) has its own credits screen at the end. The last one is just a copyright screen. I know I can put both in a Compound clip but I try to avoid compound clips and use them only when really needed as they clutter my project.
