  • Why can’t I import 720 x 576 files

    Hi there,
I’m having one hell of a time trying to import some QT ref files from AVID into Encore … the files ARE 720 x 576 (It even tells me so when I play them in a QT player and check the movie info file …) but Encore tells me “Could not import file .. Files for this project must have a resolution of 720 x 576 or 704 x 576” .. to make matters more frustrating some of my QT refs of that size are able to be imported … any ideas?

What version of Encore are you using? 1.0 and 1.5 don’t handle QT ref files very swiftly. If you’re not on 2.0 yet, I’d recommend either upgrading or not using QT ref files.

The error message about the frame dimensions is not necessarily accurate- often times Encore finds something it doesn’t like with the file, but doesn’t have a proper err message for it, so it falls back to another err message about a problem with the file.

1.0 & 1.5 do not support QT Ref files officially at all!
SOme have found they can import them, but it is not actually supported.
    Try the self-contained variety instead.
Version 2.0 does support QT Ref files, but these are transcoded on import.
