Why can’t I export for web? FCP 7 1280×720 720p 60?
I am trying to output a high quality .mov for vimeo and I’ve tried every setting in every application and I either get something that’s insanely pixellated or the wrong aspect ratio – I don’t understand what’s going on – please help!
I am running the current version of FCP on an Intel Mac – working with log & transferred P2 footage from the HPX-170 shot in the factory default 720p 60 in a normal sequence. When I export an uncompressed quicktime file, it’s correct (proper aspect ratio and everything but it’s like 6 Gb) and I try doing the internet settings under file> export> quicktime conversion and they all spit out something totally wack! I also tried taking the uncompressed .mov into compressor AND Quicktime 7 and everything THEY spit out is pixellated and the wrong aspect ratio, I can’t find a dumbed-down tutorial on how to do this, can anyone direct me to one or tell me what setting may be messed up that I am unaware of? You just need to export with the current size. If there is any option to select the kind of pixels, select “square”. There are hundreds of tutorial on how to prepare a clip for YouTube or so. Fallow the same procedure and set the data rate according with your picture size. Key-frames, always Automatic.

that’s the problem – i don’t need current size, i need it shrunken for the web.

You’re tried exporting through compressor from fcp and choosing one of the numerous web presets? Try an h.264 one.

Yeah, I’ve tried everything as h.264. I just made one that looks correct – but I changed the settings to Size: NTSC 720×480 and now it looks right. But that doesn’t make sense because it’s HD footage at 1280×720. Does anyone know why this would happen? When I choose Size: HD 1280×720 it looks pixellated and crazy low-res.

Exporting to 720×480 should look absolutely distorted.
854×480 should look 16×9.
The pixelation is very difficult to understand.
