  Why can CS4 do things CS5 can’t?

  So I am converting media from a camera I borrowed, converting M2TS files into ProRes for editing in FCP7. Compressor and Adobe Encoder CS5 does not recognize the M2TS files but Adobe Encoder CS4 does? This makes no sense to me. Why would a legacy version be able to work with a file format that the most recent version doesn’t even recognize? Any thoughts? I am particularly concerned because I am considering purchasing the Adobe suite for my new computer and would be put out if this is a common trend in Adobe’s software. Thank You.
