  • Why black lines when rendering?

Posted by John Riker on October 11, 2010 at 10:58 pm

I have a video that is 720×480. In the preview window it fills the whole frame. There are no black bars. When I render to a video that has a project of 720 x 480 black bars show on the left and right side on the preview window as it renders. Why is it doing this? If the source video is the same as the final output, this doesn’t make sense.

Figured it out but now another question. Assuming what I did was right. When I set the pixel aspect ratio to .9091 it rendered without black bars on the left and right sides. Sooooo, how do I now if I should change the pixel aspect ratio and to what since it looks like Vegas doesn’t detact that.

    Thanks.

Actually, you shouldn’t have to do anything. If you are working in NTSC DV, you should use the NTSC DV project settings and render to an NTCS DV template and everything should work. It sounds like you may have selected a Widescreen render template which would cause pillar-boxing (i.e., black vertical bars on the sides) So it’s a matter of keeping your project, source, and render all using the same format.

If I had to guess… I would say you are using interlaced video but you have your deinterlace mode set to none. Without seeing your project properties, media properties, and render properties, there is no way to tell for sure.

BTW, replying to an 8 year old post is probably not the best way to get attention. You should probably start a new post with your particular problem.
