  • Why black letterbox and background are not black?

Posted by Anna Merry on January 29, 2014 at 9:58 pm

    Hi!
I’ve created my own film with letterbox (like in the true movie) used by event pan/crop. But unfortunatelly black color is not exactly black 🙁
    I send you the attachment:

Please help me – how can I make real deep black in my movie?

I’ve realized that when I export as .wmv then my black is not black, but lighter, and if I export as mp4 then it’s ok… Why it’s like this? Please help me.

It has to do with which color-space you are in.

You should be able to find what you need in the manual or under the help topics.

First thing go to Options/Preferences then the preview device tab and look for “Adjust levels from studio RGB to computer RGB”.

See if this option is checked or not. change it. If this helps you great. You probably have a short term solution.

Next you need to research the topic. To learn why some blacks are “blacker than others. Same with whites. Hint: has to do with what used to be a much bigger deal than nowadays, Illegal Colors!

    Have fun,

    Will

Ok, I’ve found this option, but should I set it on?

This is for the monitor. Read my response to your other similar thread. You’re going to need to apply a level adjustment at the Event level to confirm you’ve got a correct level.

Read the other thread and note the effect.

Oh, really THANK YOU! I will try it.

And by the way, which render type is the best for upload to vimeo or youtube? I tried mp4 and wmv, but there are so many options to set before click “render” and I don’t know exactly which would be the best. Please help me.
