Why are Premiere still image sequences bigger than Encore’s?
I’m making a language-learning DVD which contains about 2100 PNG-format still images (some appear more than once) and about 390 small sound files. There are no moving images on the DVD, just still images and sound files.
When I make a sequence of still images and sound files in Premiere CS5.1 and then import the sequence into Encore CS5.1, the file size on the final DVD is much bigger than if I just import the same still images and sound files directly into a timeline in Encore and then build the DVD. The same series of images and audio can easily fit on one DVD if I just use Encore, but will require 2 or maybe 3 DVD discs if I use Premiere. My questions are, what is Premiere doing that increases the file size so much? And is there any way to keep the file size the same as if I just use Encore?
(I’d much prefer to use just Encore and fit all the files on one DVD, but it is beginning to look like users cannot FFD through this type of Encore-built DVD. I just posted a query about this on the Encore forum.)
So does anyone know why there is such a big difference in Premiere and Encore file sizes for still images and sound? I was wondering if Encore and Premiere used different encoding (e.g., Encore might efficiently specify that the same still image is used for the next 6 sec, but Premier does something different.)
Thank you for your trouble.
