I have a few clips at around 10 minutes each.

All I did in motion was add some black circles to protect the identity of some faces, and some text along the bottom explaining this.

But when i go to export its taking insanely long.

Ive tried all sorts of settings. I filmed in HDV, captured the same (not prores 422), and did the work in motion in those settings. WHy is it taking hours to export?

If i export as current settings from motion, with animation compression, it takes hours.

If i export with prores compression settings, it takes about an hour.

Im on an 8 core machine. All updates up to date etc.

    Surely this cant be normal?

Check the motion blur setting for each output. It adds significantly to the needed render time (though may be necessary depending on the work being done).

    yeah i unchecked that.

Also, i made sure render quality was normal not best.

And i cleared my RAM cache before rendering. But these things are coming out at around only 100 frames a minute, its super painful.

If i do it in a batch through compressor, its about a million times slower, and whats worse is that compressor changes my fonts for some reason.

    Oh man…. @#$%*&$!!

That’s strange that on export through Compressor that it’s slower. I use Compressor almost exclusively now for export from Motion because it’s twice to three times quicker for me.
