Why am I writing video without meaning to?
I’m not sure what i did, but when I walk away from FCP now for a little while, I come back and it has started writing video. Any idea why this is happening without me prompting it to?

Sounds like Auto Render is on.
Go to: Final Cut Pro> User preferences. In the lower right, find the “auto render” check box. Uncheck it if you don’t like the feature.
