  • Who’s successfully using BMD or Aja cards for i/o and monitoring?

Posted by Larry Peter on January 27, 2010 at 10:34 pm

I’ve been on Sony’s (and other) forums trying to find users who are having success with either BMD or Aja i/o and monitoring solutions. I know there must be users who are using SDI and HD-SDI for i/o and I’d like to hear opinions on the workflow, sytem config, etc. I’ve been using Vegas for DV and HDV work and would like to incorporate it into my mainstream post work, but accurate monitoring and input/output to tape will be a must. If it’s working for you, please tell me about it.
    Thanks,
    Larry

Been using the Xena for a coupla years. Other than some hiccups during beta cycles…life is good.

And I was hoping to hear from you. Read many of your posts. Have you captured both SD and HD? Which codec? What storage are you using? All i/o through Vegas or are you using the Aja capture program.
Douglas, you are the FIRST response from several forums that actually has first-hand knowledge of successful SDI capture. I’m excited. Now I believe it does work. Please let me know about your system, because I’ve been gun shy about the many “unreproducable problems” due to the open-hardware freedom Vegas allows us. I’d like to reproduce what works.
    Thanks again.

We capture HDSDI from Vegas sourced from XDCAM and EX both. It’s more and more rare for capture these days, mostly monitoring. Even then…we’re a closed house, so SDI is no longer the “big deal” for us that it was. I’m more interested in seeing HDMI ingest/output working.

Gotcha. I do have clients over my shoulder often so a smooth workflow is a huge plus. So I take from your post that even though 9.0 supports the lhi card you still can’t ingest from hdmi? Can you monitor hdmi? And, if you don’t mind, what is your storage solution? I was considering a pair of G-Speed/es with their eSata card. They claim uncompressed HD outstream with that config.
