white pixels via firewire
Hi everybody, I’m a new mad user, after 20 years of pc…
I’ve got two problems on FCP 5.0.4 a little similar.
the first is during the capture:
sometimes I’ve some little white square blocks that randomly appears and REMAIN ON THE CAPTURED VIDEO
I have only to restart the mac…the second is through the firewire:
sometimes I play a video from the timeline, the monitor in FCP is ok, but if I look the signal via firewire (using the DV IN of a Sony DSR11 or Canon XL2) I have the same little white square blocks…My system is:
Quad G5
2.5 GB Ram
two Lacie USB2 250 GB drives
Sony DSR11 or Canon XL2Please help me… it’s a very big problem…

I seriously doubt this is an issue with either FCP or MAC. DV through the firewire cable is simply a transfer of digital information, there is no processing involved, so you need to consider looking for the source of the problem in the pathway down which your digital information is traveling to your computer and to your monitor. You may have a bad firewire connection or cable, some bad media, or dirty power in need of line conditioning.
Another thing to consider is that your setup, though it is used by many consumer-level users, is far from ideal. Daisy chaining via firewire through a camera and out to a monitor passes through many inexpensive and potentially faulty curcuits along its path, and any of them could be adding noise to your signal.

I get white pixel glitches with firewire unless I power things up in just the right order. I boot up the Mac with my DV deck turned OFF. When booted, I power up my DV deck and then (and only then) I start up Final Cut Pro. That is the only way it works for me.

Today I changed the 2 GB DDR2 I upgraded… it seems to work fine now… never crashes… and never pixels…
It’s possible the problem was the bad ram modules?
