white balance preset buttons EX1

Can anyone point me in the right direction on this one. The two little buttons on the side of the EX1 for the white balance preset. I want to assign two presets to these buttons, but everytime i try and flivk between the two, it keeps telling me i ‘cannot proceed’. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
I’m also having the same problem with the gain button next to it. I should be able to go from -3db, to 18db, but again, i keep getting the ‘cannot proceed’ warning!
If anyone can help me on this matter, it would be much appreciated.

Hi John-
After briefly looking at the manual, I believe your problem has to do with having the “direct menu” set to “ALL” or “PART” (check out pg. 19 & 107 of the manual).
