And Steve Hullfish’s excellent interview with Glenn Ficarra:

Less about FCPX, but a lot about the structure of the film.

this is a GREAT article – a highlight (more for the SAN networks forum) from this article is this about their FCP-X storage –

“All media and render files were kept on the ExaSAN storage, but external of the Final Cut Pro X library files, thus keeping those small. The library files were stored on a separate NFS server (a Mac Mini using NFS Manager from Marcel Bresink Software-Systeme), with a separate FCP X library file for each reel of the film. This enabled the editors and assistants to access any FCP X library file, as long as someone else wasn’t using it at the time. A shared iTunes library for temporary sound effects and music selections was stored on the SAN, with all machines pointing to that location. From within Final Cut, any editor could browse the iTunes library for music and sound effects.”

So kudos to Accusys who makes the ExaSAN. As I am doing more and more FCP-X systems, I am excited to see specific workflows for FCP-X shared storage from QNAP, Accusys and LumaForge – Neil and Sam at LumaForge are doing an AMAZING marketing job on getting the word out about Jellyfish, and they deserve their new success with this product.

Just wait until this NAB – there will be lots of stuff to talk about.

    Hey Bob,

Thanks for the kind words. Honestly, we would LOVE to have you come see us at NAB in our workflow suite, and really walk you through what we’re doing… better yet, I’d encourage you to go see everyone else’s stuff, and then come see our demo. There is a touch and feel aspect to our products that often gets lost in a see of spec sheets, features, and number of ports… We’d love to find a good way to come see our product in person and really tell us what you think… we’d even be happy to put together a private demo to your specifications for you that I don’t think you’ll be able see another vendor perform.

Bottom line, let’s talk if you’re interested, and worst case scenario, I’d love to buy you a beer at NAB.
