  • Which Sony HD Camera for blowup to 35mm.

Posted by Harcharan Singh on November 7, 2007 at 11:20 am

    Hi,
We have a post production house having the following NLe’s:

    1. FCP with Kona 2
    2. Avid Composer with Adrenaline HD(with DNXCEL board for HD-SDI capture)

We want to buy a camera for feature film shooting which can be blownup to 35mm at beat resolution or released digitally.
But we do not have the budget to buy the high range Cinealta series. Can someone suggest the best buy which works best with our NLe’s at a budget of USD10000 to 25000.
    Thks

Renting a camera is always a good option – you can even rent a 35MM camera.

    Thanks,
    Harry.

    Like Harry said, Rent!

Our F-900 usually goes for around $9k and tape is about $700. They’ve been around for a while and owners are offering deals. Put your money into editing because that takes months to complete if not longer. And, if you hire an owner-operator, you might even get something nice enough to make a profitable movie. An accountant would suggest renting. They get paid the big bucks for some reason.

    Sony HDCAM F-900 & HDW-2000/1 deck
5 Final Cut (not quite PRO) systems
    Sony HVR-M25 HDV deck
    Sony EX-1 on the way.

I am a Projectionist who work in a 17 theater complex we have one digital projector and its ok (350k Cost) even when movie is shot on film does not look good as film. I have seen dozens of movie that is shot using digital and they are ok but different look from film. Some how if your going to transfered digital to 35mm it does not look right. (example Miami Vice)
I think Red 4k Digital is on to something and maybe you should look into this camera, I have not seen footage from the camera other than the one they posted on their website.
