  • Which Render for Best Quality??

Posted by Carlo Simone on December 13, 2006 at 7:58 am

Hi all, I am trying to edit a 15 minute collage of video for streaming either on You Tube or some other website for a buddy. What would you recommend for small but best quality? I have tried some renders to .mov because I was told it is the best quality possible but the files are huge. Any suggestions??

If you use YouTube, they will convert it to Flash no matter what file format. The answer depends on what, how, when, who and what weather. The smallest files with the best quality can probably be obtained with either DivX, H.264 or Windows Media. I’d go for H.264 and upload that to YouTube, but that’s just because the weather is nice in Southern California.

After I import it into a new project, is there a way to swap media with keeping effects and exact duration (length of old clip, needed to sync with music)or do I have to bring in new media and assign new effects? The reason I ask is because some shots in the wedding business are exactly the same and I do not want to re-invent the scene…Thanks….

Right-click on the media and see what pops up. Look for a menu item called “Replace…”

You’re not going to be able to upload 15 minute video to You Tube unless you’re a director.

Here’s an exerpt from You Tube specks.
Videos are limited to 10 minutes (unless you’re a Director) and 100 MB.
Videos saved with the following settings convert the best:
    MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
    320×240 resolution
    MP3 audio
    30 frames per second framerate

Best to go with DivX. V7 I understand will render to that. If you don’t have V7 you can get the DivX encoder from….

    https://www.divx.com/

It’s quite cheap and comes with a player. Just bring an AVI ito the converter and convert. Easy.

I’ve tried uploading to You Tube in other formats but this one works the best.
