If you were going to buy a laptop and run Vegas, what you pick … Pentium 4 or Pentium M? Two that I’m looking at are:

    Dell XPS Gen 2
    Windows XP Professional; 2.13GHz Intel Pentium M 770; 1GB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz; Nvidia GeForce 6800 Go Ultra 256MB; Hitachi Travelstar 5K80 80GB 5,400rpm

    Toshiba P35-S611
    Windows XP Home; 3.33GHz Intel Pentium 4 548; 512MB DDR SDRAM 333MHz; ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP 64MB; Fujitsu MHU2100 100GB

At https://marketwatch.com.com/4505-3000_7-31273665-2.html, the Dell smoked the Toshiba, but it is quite a bit more money. Also, the slant was toward “gaming”. I really don’t care about gaming, I want to edit and render AFAP.

    Thanks in advance.

If you can get the P4 with true HT. You can network render on the single chip by running 2 instances of the network render engine. I tried it and it is a little faster. 4.5 minutes vs. 6 minutes. Same machine.
