My old MBP’s died so it’s replacement time..

I can get a 2.4Ghz unibody Macbook Pro with 256MB graphics mem (9400/9600)or a previous generation aluminium MBP 2.5Ghz with 512MB graphics mem (8600) for the same price.

I’ll be using it mostly as a general computer but will certainly sometimes want to use it for mobile FCP work with an IO attached and maybe in the future an MXO2/IOHD for HD.

Any thoughts about which is the better buy.

    Cheers

    Neither,
You’ll need a fast processor with lots of RAM. The latest intel MBPs with 4G of RAM handle HD ok, but you’ll need an express card slot for the MXO2 (= an older 15″ or 17″, or the latest only the 17′)

I don’t think I was making myself clear. Both are older models with the express card slot and at 2.4 and 2.5 ghz the processors should be up to the job (certainly maxed out with ram). I suppose the question is: which is better, the 8600 graphics card with more ram are the 9600 with less? And is the motherboard design of the 1st gen unibody MBP superior making it a smarter buy despite the lower speed processor? Then it’s just a case of whether I can put up with a glossy screen.

    Cheers
