I am going to have some surgery done very soon which will stop me working (filming) for about 3 months. I am also hoping to seek warmer pastures, next winter, to recuperate.
With this in mind, I thought I would ask you knowledgeable guys for advice. I have never owned a laptop but now may be the time to get one.
I do not want to spend too many bucks because once I am fit, I shall only use it to take on holidays etc.

1 – I would be buying it in UK.
2 – reasonable battery life because warmer pastures I shall be seeking will be in India and electricity does stay ON 24/7.
3 – reasonable speed for Vegas 6 to run
4 – firewire port(s) for camera and external drive.
5 – wireless network for plugging in to my broadband
6 – Modem to connect to Internet when abroad.

So what laptops you guys use?

    Regards
    Mahesh

    what about SIZE ?

    i have a HP 15.4 lcd , AMD 3700 .. to travel and edit ..
however after 1st traveling holiday to east coast for 3 weeks the WEIGHT/size got to me .. have not taken it on a plane since.

i then bought a Averatec 4200 – pent M 1.6 , 1.25gig ram (added extra ram) , 13.3 lcd .. excellent for traveling and no problem editing SD with vegas .. battery can go 3- 31/2 hr on batt save mode which works with dv type files … 2 1/2 editing full power …

if i was buying today i would go duo core pent-M …

    >what about SIZE ?< I had not thought of that. As I said I have not used a laptop apart from Tosh' in late 1990's which we use for configuring TV transmitters. How do you find editing with Vegas on Laptop? I would have to really get used to single screen. Regards Mahesh https://www.crestvideo.co.uk
