I just started using a sony HDR-SR11 with my presentations , what is the best format to convert these files to the come out m2ts and the conversion utility can covert it to wmv stadard or high, or mpeg, standard or high quality. I am assuming the higher quality would slow dow the render, but would it be worth it for the quality look? What render setting should I use?

First, yes, it is ALWAYS worth the extra time to get a better render, in my opinion!

WMV is definitely fine and will work with PowerPoint and other MS apps, so it can be the best choice, in some situations. Personally, I like MainConcept’s AVC (MP4), 2-pass VBR, etc., but lots of folks here like Sony’s AVC (MP4) encoder as well. This all certainly depends on your playback device: You using a computer? iPod? DVD player? PSP? Internet?

Without more info, a pure guess might be:

    1920×1080@29.97
    2-pass VBR
    Max: 20Mbps
    Average: 15Mbps

This is way high for most distribution, but your camera is shooting 19Mbps, so 20Mbps max is pretty good, although “best” would be if you didn’t need to convert at all and could playback the raw MTS files (like on a PS3), so, again, it depends.

OK, that helps: rendering to host on your own website (as opposed to YouTube/Vimeo).

WMV is probably fine. Nothing wrong with QT MOV using Sorenson 3 either. Since you are using a smallish frame size, I think you can get away with a bandwidth-friendly 1 Mbps. The only thing I’d change would be to go with a 16:9 widescreen aspect, say:

    320×180

    -or-

    480×270

but maybe you’d want to bump the datarate of the larger one to 1.5 Mbps.
