  • Which I-Mac for FCP ?

Posted by Glenn Romano on December 9, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Can anybody suggest what model and configuration of I-Mac would be appropriate for running FCP 7 and beyond?

Do I really have to buy a tower or would a lower cost I-Mac suffice?

    Thanks.

A lot of people think that they need a high powered system to edit.

I do have a desktop that is fully built as my main system but during emergencies, I use my 2.16 ghz 15″ MBP w/ only 3 gigs of ram to edit P2 material. It runs fine.

When you start doing a lot of multi-tasking, and be honest yourself, thats when you need a fast system.

Generally, when I am editing for a client, I would have multiple applications running and I’m constantly switching between them

    FCP – Obvious
    AE – Titling
    PS – Titling
iTunes – Audio for the piece
    MS Excel – Notes

    Hope this helps.
