Which HD recording format is best for international hd dvd compatibility?

I have a client who is looking to have hd-dvd and blu-ray dvd’s released in 2008, filming begins this summer. My client is looking to press a single high definition dvd (in both formats hd-dvd and blue-ray) that can play in North America and abroad.

Which format would be the best to record the video in? I like 108024p. Unfortunately the client isn’t keen of the ‘film-look’ of 24p video, but would go with it if it provided better international compatibility. It’s most important to be able to press one dvd that plays in all regions. The content of the dvd is scenic, with slow pans and jib moves. I understand that the HD-DVD players only support 1080i, so we’d need to convert the 108024p to 1080i or 72024p for the HD-DVD release.

With the upcoming new hd dvd players, does it make a difference which HD format one films with for all regions playback? Would 1080i or 72059.94 be equally compatible as 108024p in other countries?

    Thanks for any advice.
