  • Which HD editing system do you use with PP and AE?

Posted by Steffen Wirth on July 6, 2008 at 4:44 pm

    Hi,

I am looking into getting an XH-A1 (using 720p 24f and 1080p 24f) but I am very confused about the editing requirements for HD footage.

    1. If you use a PC – could you let me know what system you use with PPro CS3 in order to comfortably (real time) edit HDV?

    2. The same question would apply to compositing with After Effects. If you have a system that allows compositing HDV with AE CS3, could you post what you use?

    3. It would be great if you also could mention whether you use a Matrox card or the Cineform Aspec or Prospect software or any other similar additions.

    Thanks!

    Hi Steffen,

Cannot say anything about HDV, but DVCPro HD:

I am using Cineforms ProspectHD Intermediate codec with DVCPro HD footage. Usually I scale up the clips to 1920×1080 in HDLink, Q: Filmscan 1/2 to benefit from 10bit/4:2:2 in postproduction. The system it works flawlessly on is a Dual Core 3.2 Ghz, Ram 4Gb, wth. Samsung SATA HDDs. For AE I should have more RAM and a better CPU, but editing in PPRo works fine.
