Please forgive my ignorance if this is in fact a basic question I’m about to ask. I’m a Vegas user and I have a 2 hr action/drama movie that’s ready to be rendered out and put on DVD. My original footage is 23.97fps. I understand that TV’s need 29.97fps to play. My Vegas MPEG-2 templates give me many options. Question: What is the difference between setting the framerate at 29.97 verses 23.97 with pulldown? Aren’t those 2 settings the same really? To test things I rendered out a clip at 29.97 and one at 23.97 with pulldown. I also tried to render one set at just 23.97 without pulldown but I get an error trying that–it won’t work. After I rendered the 2 clips I saw that the 29.97 clip was a bigger file. Why? Also, what setting do I use to preserve my “film-like 24p look”?? I’ve searched the net but can’t seem to get any simple straight answers. I know that setting it at 29.97 will do the job BUT what am I missing by not using the other settings instead?

Technically speaking, your frame rate is not so-much where it came from, but where it’s going. Like if your going on YouTube you only need 15fps.
I say technically, cus there are situations where you should keep the same frame rate (ie, you haven’t imported your audio).
