    G’day,

I’m going to create a video for work. The video camera is a Sony HDV-HC1, which shoots high-definition. I’d therefore expect to create a FCP 5.1 project with the 50 1080i format (since we use a PAL format in Australia). The results will be exported as DV (since it will be burned onto a DVD, which doesn’t support HD).

I’d also like to create some titles using Motion.

My really basic question is what format should my Motion and FCP projects be? Is it better to create a 1080i project in Motion to match the FCP format? Or, since the results will be exported as DV anyway, is it better to create DV projects for both FCP and Motion?

I’m sorry if this message is very convoluted. It’s the first time that I’ve worked with both Motion and FCP on the same project. Thanks very much in advance for your help.

    Regards,
    Doug

There may be other factors involved (nature of the project, deadlines, machine power), but as a general rule, keep the whole project at as high a quality as possible for as long as possible. I would probably keep the project at 1080i (FCP and Motion) until exporting to the DVD. This allows for the most distribution options in the futrue (like HD-DVD…).
