  • Which format to export to iDVD

    Hi All,

I tired searching for the answer, and I am sure this has been posted 100’s of time, but here we go… I am using Final Cut Express 4 to put together a video, it will be about 45 minutes long when it is finished. Before sending it to iDVD, what format should i have quicktime put it into? I have been playing around with a 1 minute clip and have only able to get it down to about 300mb and still looking good. I want this to obviously look as good as possible on the television, but am lost. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

Just export a QT movie using current settings, which will be the same settings you used to capture the footage. Just drag the resulting 45 minute movie into iDVD and it will encode your movie to MPEG2 for the DVD.

thanks for the help, its outstanding information. i know i can drag the qt into idvd, maybe i can simplify my question. are there any format hints or tips that i should consider when exporting to qt in order to maintain the quality of the original footage?

You can’t make the video quality any better than the original. iDVD is not the best compression scheme in the world. If you’re looking for better quality out of your DVD’s, then you’ll need something like BitVice from innobits and you’ll have to step up to DVD Studio Pro in order to use the files.

If all you have is iDVD, then you simply export the QT as has been suggested and burn your DVD using the highest quality settings iDVD will allow.
