WHich format for best Keying
Posted by United Fan on September 24, 2007 at 7:30 pmhi all
suggestions on which format (Analog BetaSP or HDV) would result in a better key…
normally i’d say BetaSP but the HDV could be interesting…anyone keyed with HDV before?
any help would be appreciated.
thx

September 24, 2007 at 7:39 pmYou can always Google “HDV” and “greenscreen”, yielding sites such as:

September 24, 2007 at 9:24 pmAlso, Tim Wilson here at the Cow did an article on this very topic recently…
Beta SP has denser color difference sub sampling, but HDV has more pixels. I’d personally go HDV and do the composite in HD before downconverting to standard def (which is what I’m assuming you’re working in if you’re even considering Beta SP…)
All normal caveats apply…poorly lit and poorly shot greenscreen footage is largely format agnostic.

Hi Dave,
I think that “High Definition” has sort of divided into two tiers. The HDV/HVX200 images and the higher end stuff. I’ve composited HDV and DVCPHD from the HVX camera…it works if it’s well shot (just like any other format), but if you tried to mix this footage with HDcam or DVCPHD from a Varicam, it would be pretty obvious…
