  • Which file formats from the Mac can Vegas import?!?

Posted by David Gudelius on October 10, 2008 at 8:28 pm

    Hi there,
we need to deliver HD-Material which has been edited on the Mac to someone who uses Vegas.

We have DVCPRO HD 1080i50 material.

Does someone know exactly what we have to do (export on the Mac via Quicktime, Compressor or whatever) that our client can load our movie into Vegas?

This is really urgent, so any advices are very very welcome!
    Thanks a lot in advance!

The Quicktime JPEG format at 95% is a good quality format to
export out to for that….and also because the file would
then be relatively smaller but still possesses great quality.

Vegas works well with this format…thus making things a lot
    smoother for the vegas editor.

Or if this particular vegas editor has the “DVFilm Raylight”
plugin…he can work directly with your DVCPROHD Format.

Export from FCP as a ProRez 4:2:2 file, or Sony .mxf (XDCAM HD) file.
Vegas will read both, once you download the ProRez codec from apple’s site.

    Hi, thanks for this hint!
Which JPEG-Compression exactly? “Motion JPEG A”, “Motion JPEG B”, “JPEG 2000” or “Foto-JPEG”?
The editor doesn’t have this plugin; we sent him the DVCPRO-material already and he wasn’t able to open it …

    Hi, thank you!
I can’t seem to export *.mxf, how can I solve that with Quicktime or Compressor?
Further, I suppose that he can’t or isn’t willing to download any codecs which aren’t preinstalled on his PC or come with the VEGAS installation, so any ProRez-codec would not be possible.
    It’s a real pity.

    Hi,
I have been given a mac formatted hard drive that I can access on my windows XP PC with “Mac Drive 7”. The evaluation copy is good for 6 days, and then I would need to pay.
This mac drive (Lacie) was used to capture HD footage from a HV20 PAL camera on a mac.

For other reasons, I cannot get hold of the original tapes, that I could have captured myself.

The hard disk contains a number of large (from 7GB to 20GB) files that report as being MooV filetype.
Can I simply copy these to my own hard drive and edit them using Vegas8, or do I need to change the filetype or some other trick before Vegas can recognise them?
I also have SUPER, but not sure if this will handle the moov files

I am then going to drop all of my M2T files back onto the drive so my colleague can use my footage of the same event. Will he have similar problems recognising these using his mac editing software (not sure which one he uses)?.

You college will have to use MPEG Streamclip to convert m2t-material into HDV that FinalCut Pro can read.
