Which FCP version do I need for Panasonic HVX200, P2 card editing (720P, HD)?
Hi,
I’m new to shooting with this camera (Panasonic HVX200, 720p, HD, P2 cards) and need to find out which version of FCP I must run to edit the footage.
Also, is there a better choice between capturing or ingesting the footage?

You need at least FCP 5.0.4…FCP 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 would be better. But the latest version out is FCP 6, and that does a great job.
There really is only two ways of dealing with the P2 footage. Using the IMPORT option on FCP (IMPORT>Panasonic P2 on FCP 5.0 and 5.1, LOG & TRANSFER on FCP 6)…or downloading RAYLIGHT for the mac and editing the footage natively. I have tested Raylight and find it workable…but still prefer importing the footage than working with the masters.
Here is a dated tutorial for working with the P2 footage. This is the workflow for FCP 5.0.4. The basic workflow is the same, just the import window options changed a little with FCP 5.1 and 6.0:
