which easy set up optimal when using P2 cards (720p footage)
Posted by Todd Reid on August 24, 2008 at 6:28 pmI’ve been using the AJA IoHD-720p 59.94 Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
Everything has been working and looking good,
but was just wondering if I’ve chosen the best option.Shane Ross replied 17 years, 8 months ago 2 Members · 3 Replies -

August 24, 2008 at 10:08 pmThe P2 cards don’t shoot ProRes. You should be using the DVCPRO HD 720p setting that matches your frame rate.

August 24, 2008 at 10:46 pmI used to use that and was having some delays, so I figured, since I have the aja HD, I’d start using prores. I thought it might make things run more reliable. Which they have.
I just wondered what would produce the best experience for me and my client.
I’m starting a new project today, so I’ll try your suggestion.
Is there any validity to my thoughts???

The I/O HD won’t convert the P2 footage to ProRes, so I don’t see what this hardware gains for you. Slowing down? How so? I never experienced that myself. I use the AJA Kona 3 DVCPRO HD 720p 23.98 Varicam setting.

Well, when you render you are rendering in ProRes, which is a 10-bit codec vs DVCPRO HDs 8-bit. But your renders will take up a lot more space than DVCPRO HD will. Dunno…if it works, I see no problem.
