    I notice there is a :
    Blackmagic 10 bit codec
    and a
    Blackmagic DV10 10 Bit codec

I am about to online in Final Cut I’m recompressing my DV footage(shot on DVX100) to SD 10 bit and also capturing Beta. Is one codec for DV and the other for Beta? Whats the difference?

On another note am I ok media managing my DV offline to recompressed as Uncompressed? I have had so many mixed responses to this question. Are budget and schedule is so tight right now, that we are opting not to recapture all the DV footage via SDI.

Also I am expected to deliver 4 tracks of audio to digibeta and I only have the very basic $295 Decklink card that has SDI (in/out only). Am I going to be able to export 4 tracks using final cut pro 4 through the SDI? Does anyone know how to set this up in Final Cut?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Use Blackmagic 10 bit codec , the other is the Digital Voodoo (can we type that here Ron?) compatible codec.

Yes you can output multichannel audio with a standard DeckLink.

Make sure Decklink is selected for audio output.

In FCP go to User Settings under the Audio tab and duplicate the default stereo.

Make an audio setup with 4 channels (2 x stereo).

In your Sequence check your settings and select your new 4 channel setup.

Now remap audio track 3/4 to output 3/4 by control/right clicking on the audio settings on the left of each track on the timeline (sorry not in front of FCP, so anyone feel free to correct)

Under audio tools select audio mixer, make sure there are 4 outputs.

If you have setup correctly when you play, all 4 channel meters will light up on the ouput (right side) of the mixer.

Make sure the digibeta is set to SIF for audio input.

Now when you record 4 channels will be recorded.

Common mistake is the mixer has a stereo downmix button, if this on only 2 channels are output, so always check that all 4 output channels are working.

I really appreciate you emailing me back Jonathan.

I go this checklist for setting up the digibeta for online off another post. Do you see anything missing?

    In FCP:
    1. Check that 422 control is set to VTC & LTC in your preset
    2. Your offset is set to “0”
    3. Obviously, “Sony 422” protocol

    On digibeta:

    1. Top control panel “TC Gen” switch set to “Regen”
    2. Bottom control paned “TC Source” set to “Auto”
    3. Menu item 5?? “VITC TC” set to “Regen”
    4. Top control panel, “Output reference” set to “EXT”

Where do you “set to SIF for audio input” on the digibeta? Is it in the menu? IS there anyway I can contact you if I have any other questions?
