Where’s the Marker Window?
Posted by Chris Conlee on May 7, 2016 at 12:01 amI’ve just spent a couple hours adding markers in a long sequence so I can find particular lines of dialog very easily. Now I just need to find the marker window that lets me navigate the markers with my notes.

May 7, 2016 at 1:13 amYou can navigate markers right on your timeline or preview window with key commands or manual clicks.
You also have a marker panel available from the Windows menu ( as for all panels).
Also you can navigate markers from the Marker menu on the top bar. So that is 3 ways. Learning the keyboard shortcut commands early rather than putting it off for years will be to your great advantage an dunderstanding as well. Don’t be afraid of them. They are great work savers. That makes 4 ways of dealing with markers.

May 7, 2016 at 1:19 amWhat’s up with the Marker window tho? As soon as I click on a marker, all the others disappear, and I then have to close and re-open it to get my markers back. I just want a simple list that I can click on to jump to a marker of my choice, and if I don’t like that take I want to be able to click to another one (they’re not consecutive sound bites, so timeline sequential navigation isn’t the most useful right now).

That’s weird. I haven’t seen that behavior before. Are you on OSX or Windows?

May 7, 2016 at 4:25 pmOS X. As soon as I touch ANYTHING, the marker window goes blank. If I touch a marker, the playhead jumps to that spot, but marker window goes blank. If I touch the timeline, the marker window goes blank. In order for it to repopulate, I have to close it and reopen.

May 7, 2016 at 4:43 pmIs it possible your machine is not up to the task of holding all of the program and the load of clips and other data?
Have you turned on your hardware monitor to look at CPU, GPU and RAM load? Are you running clips off a slow disk? Or a slow bus?
So many variables here.

May 7, 2016 at 10:07 pmNo, my machine is pretty up to snuff. Here’s a video of what’s happening, for anybody interested.

May 8, 2016 at 12:56 amThe reason why the window goes blank when you click on the clip is because Premiere is attempting to show your clip markers, which you don’t have.

May 8, 2016 at 1:30 amYeah, I get that. The problem I was having before, as the first video showed, is that the marker list was clearing when I simply scrolled the playhead, and then wouldn’t repopulate.

May 8, 2016 at 1:43 amYou say your machine has the resources. But the videos tell a different story.
I think you are working with too much at once for your machine.
Try shying half the layers and see how it works.I still think you should open a system monitor to see how the hardware is actually dealing with it.
