  • Where’s my markers?

Posted by Willie Bobo on July 20, 2009 at 7:46 pm

I can’t remember ever having this problem before but when rendering (in Vegas 8) to the DVDA template with “include markers” checked I don’t see them in DVDA 5.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks very much,
    Randy

    First thing:
Have you Dropped the rendered project back unto the vegas
timeline and see if the markers are there, saved where they
    should be?

Thanks for the quick reply Steve…I’m not sure what you mean but when I open the mpg (without the .ac3) in Vegas…no sir, I do not see the markers.
What should that tell me? I feel sure I checked the include markers box before rendering….but I’ve been wrong before.
    Thanks again Steve,
    Randy

If you dont see it after you open it in vegas…that means
    it wasnt saved.
Just render out a 4 second piece of your project, with about
4 markers to the DVD Architect Video stream template….
And make sure that save markers is ticked in the render window.
And then see if the markers are there when you open it back
    in vegas.

Yes sir they are there..I guess I’ll try to re-render the whole thing again but I’m positive I had it checked. That said I do want to have it checked for the .ac3 too right? I mean they can’t cancel each other out or anything can they?
    Thanks again Steve,
    Randy

No, they can’t cancel each other out.
    Double check & render again.
Still, remember the proper way to render for
DVD is to render out the video and audio
separately, giving them the same name eg:

    I’m rendering now

It’s too late for Randy now but if someone else runs into the same problem, grab SFL (Marker File) Creator from the VASST site.
It’s a free script to generate *.sfl file from Vegas timeline markers which can then be imported into DVDA as chapter points.

FWIW, I’ve found that if I use the “Batch Render” script to render the video and audio streams, the markers don’t get saved. Weird.

Then again, considering how LITTLE time an audio render takes, it’s not a big deal to do separate video/audio renders…
