Wheres my FLV export option gone?
I’ve just upgraded to a new Macpro with 10.5.5, and all the associated software upgrades.
My old FCP system has an option in the Export dialogue that allows me to create a “Macromedia Flash Video”. I don’t remember ever installing it separately, but i guess it must have been put in there by one of my other packages.
With that in mind i have loaded Macromedia Studio 8 (i’m not upgrading this because i don’t use it anymore), installed Adobe CS4 creative suite & After Effects, Autodesk Cleaner 6.5. All this and still i don’t have the flash exporter back in FCP.
Anyone have any idea how to get this useful little option back into FCP?
I know people are going to start saying use this app or that app….thats not what i want – I have apps that will do it, but its really useful to be able to export them directly from FCP.

Hi Adam,
You need to install the “Adobe Flash Video Encoder”. This will put in your Quick Time Folder (Library) the FLV Component. Then you should be able to export Flash from FC (via QT conversion), QT and Compressor.

I already installed it as part of the Studio 8 package. Also just installed the Adobe Media Encoder CS4 (which looks like a more updated version of the same thing. The flv component is in the quicktime library but still no flash export within FCP.

I also don’t have a Flash export option on my latest-and-greatest Final Cut. When I did the installation my intention was to install everything; no restrictions. Might I have done something wrong on that installation?
Also, I did a search online to find the right encoder to add to my system but I didn’t find one that looked right, even at the Adobe site. Can someone point me to the right place?

I had a similar problem and ended up using a site called zamzar to encode the flv file. I never did resolve the issue. I was looking at a company called on2. I know this doesn’t help your issue with your reinstallation, but at least you have a way to make a flv file. Hope this helps.

Any of you use DiskWarrior or TechTools?
If you have the component in the Library> QT folder, QT should show it in his Export Options.
If not, may just be a “File Finder Info” problem.
Few mac OX versions ago, was a problem when having too many (like 60 or so) QT components in the mentioned folder, but this have being worked out long ago.

Yep, I know about the third-party encoders. On2 used to be the best of the bunch at Flash encloding — even when Macromedia was still around. But I’m trying to figure out how to do the Flash export from inside FCP. -
did you ever figure out how to get flv option back in FCP. I have Studio 6 and CS4, and I can’t seem to get it to appear.

no sorry. I read somewhere that the functionality was lost in upgrading to 10.5(or it may have been some other upgrade). Pity really as it was a really useful feature that is now much more drawn out process!

When I uninstalled CS3 and installed CS4, I spotlight searched for FLV.component. It found it in an adobe folder in applications. I just dragged that component into the appropriate library/quicktime folder and when i opened FCP again, it was there. It might be remnants of CS3, however I uninstalled CS3 with the uninstaller so it should have wiped everything clean. Hope this can help someone.

I’ve never had CS3, only CS4. I’ve installed everything from CS4, but I don’t have the FLV.component file anywhere on my system, nor the capability to export FLVs directly from Final Cut Pro.
