where the aroma is…
I am doing a scene of a coffee shop and in a sort of goofy way, I was wondering if there is a way to visually animate the smell wafting out the door. I am hoping to do this in post production. Would a smoke machine do something like that?
Kind of like in cartoons where you see a wave of steam, etc…Any input would be helpful.

Sure, you can use a smoke machine–but with more control I’d go with animating particles using Particular in AE (simply the best) or with one of the partical generators in Motion.

Although not as delicate as your wafting coffee aroma, the FEDEX commercial “Sweeps” is worth watching both for the excellent effects techniques, and also because it’s so terrifically funny.
