  • where does Compressor put renders pre-FTP?

I tried to use Compressor’s new FTP function, but the problem is thus. The FTP timed out, which caused the job to fail. I can’t find the rendered .mov anywhere, so I can’t just manually FTP it. Looks like I have to go back and render the entire thing again. Does anyone know where the render file goes? Can I rescue it from a cache somewhere so I don’t have to encode the entire project again?

Compressor puts the file wherever you tell it to go. Where did you specify that the file is saved? That’s where it is.

When you specify “FTP” as the destination, there’s no obvious path to the local file. So if the FTP fails, the output file seems to vanish. But it must be in a local cache somewhere, right?

There’s a cache, but it’s usually not a whole QT movie.

From Finder > Go to Folder then type

/var/spool/qmaster. I bet there’s files in there but nothing readable, but maybe?

The files are saved in /var/tmp
