Where are my emitters?
Hi All
Another hopefully simple question, well simple answer really, the question may not be so clear!
I have been messing about with the Offset layer but sometimes when I get the little knobbly Offset Cursor back in the center of the screen and then try to add an emitter the emitter appears on the lefthand window but no ‘bulls-eye’ appears on the stage and subsequently no nice effect either!.
I’ve tried moving ahead some frames and left clicking and I’ve tried setting a break point but no luck – well no emitter.
I assume that the emitter is being placed somewhere off screen but how can that be if it is a new emitter and is being placed next to the Offset cursor? Isn’t the effect of the offset layer going to be minimal at this point?
When I ‘reset’ the Offset graph I can place an emitter on the screen so I guess it is the offset that is the problem. Any ideas??

They should lay down wherever you place them, at least they do when I tried to replicate your problem. You can try to reset placement of the emitter itself, rather than resetting the offset.
Could you upload a project file for us to have a look?

Any time the mouse cursor in the stage window is a green box with arrows on it, clicking will set and change the Layer Offset point. If you want to add an emitter, you have to select either another emitter in the hierarchy, or if there are no other emitters, select the layer name. Once your cursor turns back to the regular white circle (“Add” cursor), you can add emitters.
If you only have a single Layer Offset point, it shouldn’t do anything.

2 Don’t look for the background and accept its removal
3 Go directly to frame 302
4 Try to add an emitter! It appears on the left but no ‘Bullseye’
5 Go to frame 1

Ok, I get the same behavior you do. I think it has to do with Layer Offset “break” — maybe a bug? It’s hard to say without the background footage, as I don’t know exactly what you’re doing with the layer offset breaks, but I have a couple of things to try.
1) It appears based on what the Layer Offset is doing, that your footage is made up of several different clips. If that’s the case, then you may need to do each clip separately.
2) R-click on the Layer Offset in the hierarchy window and select “export position data” and use the clipboard option. Then reset the Layer offset (r-click in the graph window and “reset”), add your emitter(s), then import the position data for the Layer Offset back from the clipboard. You’ll probably have to adjust the position of the placed emitters again, but at least they’re in there.
